13th All African Games: Egypt, Nigeria lead As All African Games Ends In Grand Style.

The 2023 African Games, Officially Ends With A Resounding success, As About 5,000 Athletes Competed In 29 Disciplines.

Finally the 2023 African Games, which officially began March 8, ends on Saturday 23, March 2024, with regular champions Egypt claiming top spot at the African sports event, which held in Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast. Of the 54 countries of Africa, 53 attended, with only Cape Verde as absentee at this 13th edition. The Games were initially billed for August 2023 but facilities were not ready on time and again issues over marketing revenue which resulted in the event being postponed to March 2024 But it didn’t stop the West African country hosting a memorable competition, where everyone including athletes and sports leaders were very satisfied.

“Bravo to the organizers for the work that has been done. Now, as far as the results are concerned, there too, we can speak of confirmation, we can speak of revelation,” said  Allah Kouamé, the Vice-President of the African Cycling Confederation.

Egypt dominated the Games with a total of 189 medals, 101 of them gold, followed by Nigeria (120) and South Africa (106).The athletes benefited from very good competition conditions, with almost perfect weather conditions.

“We adopted what we called the hybrid model for building new facilities and modernizing old ones. In Borteyman, we have built one of the best aquatic centers in Africa,” said Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare , the Executive Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 13th Games.

Spectators, Fans and other sports lovers were also entertained. They were entertained to some great moments of standard sports.

“It’s great to see different sports, different nationalities, different people visiting the country, in such a dynamic environment,” said one spectator.

As memorable even, the Games commenced with a breathtaking opening ceremony at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, show casing the rich cultural heritage, sporting prowess and diversity of the African continent.

An opening ceremony with a dazzling display of colors, choreography, and symbols that celebrated Africa’s vast diversity. As the participating nations paraded into the stadium, an electric atmosphere of excitement and pride filled the air, embodying the collective values of unity and friendship.

The host Nation Ghana, pulled out all the stops in presenting its cultural treasures, with an array of traditional dances, music, and artistic performances. Top Ghanaian musicians, including the vibrant Award-winning Dancehall artist, Shatta Wale, the charismatic Award-winning afrobeat singer and songwriter King Promise, and South African sensation Kamo Mphela, known for her electrifying Amapiano moves and hits like ‘Dalie, thrilled the audience, adding to the ceremony’s captivating appeal.

Leading team Egypt boast 186 medals — 100 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze — while  second-place Team Nigeria have 114 medals – 43 gold, 32 silver and 39 bronze.

While second team Nigeria dominated the athletics event, claiming an amazing 11 gold, six silver and four bronze, totaling 21 medals.  The 2003 champions on home soil also dominated wrestling and weightlifting events but found themselves in a distant second position to Egypt on the overall medals table.

South Africa are in third place with 32 gold, 32 silver and 41 bronze. Algeria, Tunisia, hosts Ghana, Morocco, Mauritius, Ethiopia and Kenya complete the Top 10 spots in that order.
