The Incumbent President Paul Kagame Of Rwanda Coasts To 4th Term Reelection.

On July 15, 2024, in Kigali, the incumbent president Paul Kagame casts his ballot at the SOS Kinyinya polling place.
Since 2000, Paul Kagame has served as president of Rwanda. With the majority of the votes from Monday’s election counted, Rwandan President Paul Kagame is poised to win a landslide victory and extend his 24-year rule by a another five years. With almost 70% of the votes counted, he currently has 90% of the vote, according to the electoral commission’s preliminary figures.

The 66-year-old once again had no real competition. Less than 10% of the vote was shared by his two rivals.
In a speech at the headquarters of his Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) party, Mr. Kagame thanked the people of Rwanda for their trust.

Even if the percentage was 100%, they are more than simply numbers. What matters most is that [they] demonstrate trust,” Mr. Kagame stated.
Environmentalist Frank Habineza and former journalist and government advisor Philippe Mpayimana, his rivals, had respective support percentages of less than 10%
Meanwhile the final results are due on July 27; full provisional results must be received by July 20.

98% of the more than 9.5 million eligible voters, according to the electoral commission, cast ballots.
53 lawmakers and the president were up for election.
On Tuesday, there will be elections for 27 special seats designated for women, youth, and individuals with disabilities.
Since the 1994 genocide ended, Mr. Kagame has served as Rwanda’s de facto leader and president since 2000.
Critics of his actions claim he has restricted freedoms since gaining power, but his defenders point out that he has overseen economic expansion.
