Sudan: Bomb falls near Sudan hospital killing Children- MSF
According to the medical organization MSF, a bomb went off close to a pediatric hospital in the western Sudanese city of El Fasher, killing two children and injuring others.
Recently, there has been more fighting over who will dominate the city. It is the last significant city in the Darfur region under military control. In a civil war that has claimed thousands of lives and driven millions from their homes, it has been engaged in combat with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for over a year.
Although the RSF has been besieging the city since the middle of last month and threatening an attack, the army has been able to hold onto El Fasher, but tensions have been rising. Residents have been witnessing violent altercations and heavy mortar fire exchanges since Friday, a freelance journalist in the city told the BBC.
During the course of Sunday night, there was a blast in front of the Babiker Nahar Pediatric Hospital in El Fasher, which is supported by MSF, “led to the collapse of the roof above the intensive care unit and the death of two children receiving treatment there, as well as some caregivers,” the charity said in a brief statement provided to the BBC at some point during the night into Sunday.
In addition, patients sustained injuries, and those who managed to escape sought refuge in a different hospital that had already admitted 160 injured patients on Friday. It is unclear who carried out the attack.
There has been criticism of the southern section of the city, which was formerly thought to be safer and a haven for displaced persons. El Fasher’s citizens are afraid and don’t know where to run to.
